Music Review: Kaminey

kaminey music reviewVishal Bhardwaj is one of my favorite film makers and music composers in the country. He is one dude who knows what he’s doing. Kaminey is Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest flick starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Kaminey is one of the most awaited flicks of 2009. Kaminey’s music released today. The lyrics have been penned down by Gulzar and the music has been composed by the director Vishal Bhardwaj himself.

Remember Maachis? Remember Omkara? Vishal Bhardwaj’s music indeed made the films stand out. Kaminey has all those attributes of a typical commercial Bollywood movie, if you go by the promos on national television. Does the music work this time for Vishal? Well let’s check it out!

Music Review – Kambakkht Ishq

kambakkht ishq music review posterBollywood and Harry Jerry have both had a similar phase in the recent past. Dumb and low profile. With the multiplex-producers issue resolved and my exams over, we both can get back to irritating people and pursuing our million dollar dreams. I’ll get back to blogging with a music review of the upcoming flick Kambakkht Ishq. The Akshay-Kareena starrer is one of the most anticipated flicks of 2009. Well almost every other movie now comes with this ‘anticipated’ tag. The film is a comedy. I hope it turns out to be one.

The soundtrack for Kambakkht Ishq has been composed by Anu Malik. Now that’s why I had to think twice before posting a review. Anyways the title track sounded so good in the promos that I had to go give it a try. Turns out that the title track wasn’t really composed by Anu Malik, it’s a RDB creation. So does Anu Malik’s music stand out? Let’s find out!

Indian Idol 4 Winner Sourabhee’s Meherbaan

The first ever female Indian Idol winner and this is the kind of music we’re gonna get? I expect something more. She’s got talent no doubt but for God’s sake what’s with the music? This is certainly not Idol stuff.

Review: Bohemia’s Da Rap Star

Bohemia new album 2017

bohemia da rap star music album reviewPunjabi rapper Bohemia’s most awaited album Da Rap Star has finally been released worldwide. This is Bohemia’s second official release in India after the earlier album Pesa Nasha Pyar introduced the sensational Punjabi rapper Bohemia to the nation and it’s his third release worldwide. Da Rap Star comes right after Bohemia’s Bollywood performances with Akshay Kumar, probably the right time to release an album. Bollywood playback can really get you a lot of recognition across the globe. Da Rap Star has been written and produced entirely by Bohemia himself. This is something I like about the dude. The expectations are at an all time high especially after Pesa Nasha Pyar blew my mind away . Not only me but a whole lot of Bohemia’s fans are looking forward to the album. It’s been a real long wait for all of us. Let’s get in and check out the album.

Bohemia’s Next Album Da Rap Star

Punjabi rapper Bohemia’s next album is titled Da Rap Star and it’s coming out in stores 9th April. Bohemia has been recently involved with several Bollywood projects including two with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar. Bohemia also made a stage appearance during Akshay’s high profile concert in Hong Kong earlier last year. Bohemia’s latest album Da Rap Star is being released by Universal Music in India.
This will be Bohemia’s much awaited next album after Pesa Nasha Pyar. He’s one of my favorite Punjabi rappers around.

Check out intros of some of his tracks from the forthcoming album below. Sounds good to me. Desperately waiting for the album.

‘Wrath’ Unleashed!!

lamb of god wrath album reviewLamb of God is back and how!! The self-professed (And by now, with them, countless others agree) “Pure American Metal” legends promised and delivered, an year long hiatus notwithstanding. ‘Wrath’, released 2/24/9 is vintage Lamb of God, truly ‘messing all subtlety’ (I was paid to write ‘messing’..you know the actual word)

For all of those who have been living in caves for the past 15 years, Lamb of God is a 5-member Heavy metal band thats been moshing the world over for over a decade and a half now; no surprise that the transgression of the band originally titled ‘Burn the Priest’ has seen it becoming Gods of its genre today.

‘Wrath’ is like an eleven headed dragon; its not evanescent..

Will AR Rahman Win an Oscar? No way!

will rahman win an oscarSo AR Rahman managed to get a nomination at the Oscars this year for Slumdog Millionaire. Big deal! Indeed. It’s great to be nominated for an Oscar. But I feel it would have been better if the music was as good as the movie. There’s no doubt that Rahman was able to get a nomination or if I may put it correctly, the soundtrack was able to get a nomination at the Oscars just because of the hype this movie generated. There are better soundtracks for movies out there which would have been nominated otherwise. The Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack doesn’t really deserve an Oscar. Even if Rahman wins an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, he’d be the least deserving candidate amongst the nominations.

The Slumdog Millionaire is crap except for a few select tracks. Jai Ho and O Saya have been nominated for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song). The latter is quite deserving but I find Jai Ho overrated. In this category Rahman only has one track from Wall-E’s OST to compete against. The odds go with Rahman here. I’ll still repeat that 2008 was not a good year for Rahman. Delhi-6 is a decent beginning to the new year and I really hope an Oscar doesn’t inflate Rahman with the wrong kind of ideas about the music he composes.

May the most deserving person win! All the best Mr. AR Rahman!
