I’ve been looking around for some places that offered some real WiFi connectivity around Chandigarh during the past one week. I’m not really happy with the results. Most places where WiFi could be such a hit, haven’t heard of WiFi. I believe a fast food joint or any restaurant must provide WiFi access. This is as essential as toilets today. Golfer’s offered free WiFi access and I liked that place in Sector 35, Chandigarh. I didn’t have a laptop back then and now they’ve shut down. I spotted a WiFi access point connected to an ADSL Modem with lights blinking at Cafe Coffee Day in Sector 35 last week. Finally decided to check it out. The staff told me I need to purchase a pre-paid card to access their WiFi network. I purchased a card for 90 bucks which was valid for 48 hours. It offered a browsing time of 90 minutes. I couldn’t use it to the max but it was a decent service. A Rupee for a minute is a little far too expensive. Their service is powered by Airlink Broadband services. Just a block away and I could access a weak signal from a hotel nearby. It was unsecured. I decided to check it out and bang! I could access some really good speeds with a fairly low signal. Eventually the battery gave in. Then there are a couple of Tata Indicom powered Wifi hotspots in Chandigarh. There is one at PCA Stadium. BSNL will be launching it’s own pre-paid WiFi access services in major cities soon. I hope Chandigarh is a part of these cities. As of now Chandigarh is still thirsty for some good WiFi services. Anyone listening?
