Tata Sky has launched it’s High Definition services in India. Tata Sky HD offers high picture quality, 5.1 surround sound and Tata’s promise of great after sales support. Tata Sky HD includes 1080i resolution at an aspect ratio of 16:9. As of now there are only two channels available in HD. These include Discovery HD and National Geographic HD. As per Tata Sky HD even Star Plus and Star Movies is set to go HD soon.
As far as pricing is concerned you’ll need to buy a separate set-top box to view HD channels so that will cost you Rs. 2599. Installation fee of Rs. 1000 has been waived off currently. HD channels package will cost Rs. 30 per month. Yes it’s for two channels only. Existing Tata Sky customers will get one year of the Gold HD pack free of cost. There’s no mention on discounts for the set-top box in case of being an existing customer.
Tata’s foray into HD has been much awaited now. Their services and support are both excellent as far as the standard DTH broadcast is concerned. HD will make things better especially with live coverage of the upcoming Commonwealth Games in India being broadcast in HD. As for now it’s time to grab a HDTV and subscribe to Tata Sky HD.
