The new Apple iPhone 3G is here!

the new apple iphone 3g in india buy now pricesIt’s finally here! Apple launched the much awaited iPhone 3G edition which was previously termed as the Apple iPhone 2. The all new iPhone 3G is cheap, faster, more stable and has a built in global positioning via satellite (GPS). The new phone costs $199 for the 8GB edition which is roughly Rs. 8358 in India. The 16GB version of the iPhone costs $299 and it also comes in white color. The new iPhone also features a charcoal back, solid metal buttons, camera, flush headphone jack, improved audio and a longer better battery life.

Apple iPhone 3G in IndiaThe phone would be available in the US from July 11th and then subsequently in other countries as well. The Apple iPhone 3G would be available in India also later this year. Though the unlocked version of the iPhone is still available in the gray market in India, it doesn’t support all the network features. Thus rendering the iPhone to a mere toy. It was earlier speculated that Vodafone and Airtel might be bringing the Apple iPhone in India but now it’s official. Both the companies are now launching the iPhone around September. I’m not quite sure if it will be the 3G version since we don’t really have 3G here in India. The telecom operators and the TRAI is still dumb over the issue and the only place 3G is available in India is on government documentation. Now the big question is, will you buy the Apple iPhone 3G? For me it will depend on how Vodafone and Airtel roll it in India. The network access pricing as well as EDGE plans are all crap right now. Moreover you end up choking on GPRS speeds on EDGE enabled networks in India. The iPhone is surely sexy enough to make me wanna buy it but dude, where’s the 3G yaar?!

  • The AT&T plans are quite cool enough...but it ends up costing you around $160 more than the earlier iPhone using the two year contract, in the long run!
  • Thanks for visiting. I'm glad it was helpful.

The phone looks beautiful. Here I was thinking about a sprint smartphone but maybe...if the plans for iphone aren't too bad, I can get one.
  • D'oh!!!

Own an iPhone @ 8k ?? Man , 3G or No 3G , i ll splurge 8k just to flaunt thE bitten silver apple in Any1's and every1's FAce :P

But i guess pricing it so low may have serious repercussions , esp. in a place like india , where a majority of cell users have a phone costing 8k or more ...and here you are getting THE iPHONE fr the same amount , somebody with a budget of 5-6k may be tempted to go that extra mile to own this Black beauty .Nokia & Ericcson Beware , u may soon find no takers for ur 'keypad' phones ,as Owning a Touchscreen wud be possible for such a meager amount .

The Nosterdamus in me is predicting a "Appley" future ahead ,& second-hand nokias and ericcsons being sold by the dozen .

It appears that Bharti might be awarded an exclusive contracy for selling iPhone 3G across the nation while it seems that Vodafone might become a candy seller selling iPhone I to the nation. Let see how 3G spectrum rolls across the nation.
  • Bharti Airtel is bringing the Apple iPhone 3G in India now. That's confirmed!

"Soon customers will be able to purchase iPhone 3G at Airtel Relationship Centers. Details of pricing and availability will be announced at a later date. Airtel customers who wish to receive more information on iPhone 3G can send an SMS with keyword "iPhone" to 54321 (toll-free)."

The iPhone is surely a cutting edge technology to get. It is hard to resist buying a cell phone. I believe the iPhone will do particularly well in India, where people like to flaunt their newly purchased cellular phones just days after their launch. With Airtel, Vodafone...pricing will certainly be one major deciding factor. The phone would be available in the gray market as well as on Ebay after it's launch in the US...so the Apple iPhone shall compete with itself!

As far as 3G is concerned, India is just too unlucky to have stupid politicians rule over major telecom and IT decisions. Until that is put strictly under a separate council comprising of only IT/Telecom professionals, India would remain the India it is today.

    "where's the 3G yaar?!"

Loved the way you just mentioned that issue. Being closely following the telecom trends in the biggest mobile phone emerging market called India, I've been looking out for the 3G roll out in India. As for now, it's more of a karmayudh in India. The telecom operators and the TRAI are hell bent on the issue and yes of course the issue rests with the telecom ministry till now. Sad enough for a place like India where almost every other person owns a cell phone connection. 3G would simply expand this already exploding market.
