I have waited quite a long time for this one. The moment I read about Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na sometime around last year I was so excited. Abbas Tyrewala, Aamir Khan together trying to launch the new kid Imran Khan with a movie written and directed by Abbas and co-produced by Aamir and music composed by AR Rahman. Any typical Indian movie lover would go bananas for it! The made it a point to book the ticket online. Now I only buy the cheapest tickets. No it’s not inflation, I have a limited pocket money. So I rush through the crazy city traffic and make it just on time for the movie. There were butterflies in my stomach. The were no expectations. It was simply assumed that this would be a masterpiece. So will this work? Will this be the next blockbuster? Will Imran Khan deliver? The movie starts.
The first fifteen minutes were the worst. I was praying it could get better. Then I wondered, may be Aamir Khan started smoking again when he actually saw this flick. Man! He must have gone like, ‘Damn! We’e screwed!’. Somehow I felt even the people behind the screen realized the mess they made and they start dancing and singing. Great! Another Bollywood song. It’s best you close your eyes. It’ll make you not wanna smash the screen. We’re not too much into the movie and again they do the Pappu dance on the silly Pappu song. It’s a happy song. They’re simply telling you how they made a Pappu out of you! The song ends and we get back to some good stuff. The jokes are pretty much predictable. Sorry Abbas but you failed in producing the unique ones this time. Some of the jokes are good enough but I guess I was just expecting too much of a masterpiece. Anyways almost half way into the movie and I realized that this is a love story. I know every Bollywood movie is a love story in some way or the other but I was told this was a fun filled movie about college life. Wrong! Never trust these rumors. Imran Khan does deliver on the acting side. But this dude cannot dance. You can expect him to see in some mushy mushy roles in his forthcoming films. You can probably hate most of the characters. Naseerudin Shah was a surprise. And a good one! So was Paresh Rawal. Sohail Khan and Arbaz Khan try to bring in the fun element in the movie. They succeed. But only in the climax. The first half can be skipped no doubt. So if you’re stuck in traffic and miss it, no problem! The second half seems better. Somehow Abbas and his crew realized the screw up in the first half of the movie. Genelia or whatever that chick’s name was, isn’t any good. Imran Khan stands out in the movie with his good acting skills. He can surely work on them. The movie ends on a happy note and everyone is cheerful that they’ll get to go back home. Although it didn’t quite go as expected, it is still loveable. So should you watch it? You should. Buy the cheapest tickets and you won’t feel disappointed. I bet.
