Music Review – Kambakkht Ishq

by Harry on June 30, 2009

kambakkht ishq music review posterBollywood and Harry Jerry have both had a similar phase in the recent past. Dumb and low profile. With the multiplex-producers issue resolved and my exams over, we both can get back to irritating people and pursuing our million dollar dreams. I’ll get back to blogging with a music review of the upcoming flick Kambakkht Ishq. The Akshay-Kareena starrer is one of the most anticipated flicks of 2009. Well almost every other movie now comes with this ‘anticipated’ tag. The film is a comedy. I hope it turns out to be one.

The soundtrack for Kambakkht Ishq has been composed by Anu Malik. Now that’s why I had to think twice before posting a review. Anyways the title track sounded so good in the promos that I had to go give it a try. Turns out that the title track wasn’t really composed by Anu Malik, it’s a RDB creation. So does Anu Malik’s music stand out? Let’s find out!

Review: Bohemia’s Da Rap Star

by Harry on April 6, 2009

bohemia da rap star music album reviewPunjabi rapper Bohemia’s most awaited album Da Rap Star has finally been released worldwide. This is Bohemia’s second official release in India after the earlier album Pesa Nasha Pyar introduced the sensational Punjabi rapper Bohemia to the nation and it’s his third release worldwide. Da Rap Star comes right after Bohemia’s Bollywood performances with Akshay Kumar, probably the right time to release an album. Bollywood playback can really get you a lot of recognition across the globe. Da Rap Star has been written and produced entirely by Bohemia himself. This is something I like about the dude. The expectations are at an all time high especially after Pesa Nasha Pyar blew my mind away . Not only me but a whole lot of Bohemia’s fans are looking forward to the album. It’s been a real long wait for all of us. Let’s get in and check out the album.

Movie Review: Videsh – Heaven on Earth

by Harry on March 18, 2009

videsh heaven on earth india movie reviewVidesh, also titled Heaven on Earth, was my first experience watching a Deepa Mehta movie. An Academy Award nominee for her movie Fire, Deepa Mehta is one of most globally recognized directors from Canada. She is well known for her controversial ‘Elements’ trilogy (Fire, Earth, Water) of movies based in India. This movie has been titled Videsh in India. It was released under the title of Heaven on Earth in Canada earlier in 2008. The film is originally in Punjabi. It’ll be released in both Hindi and Punjabi versions in India. Videsh – Heaven on Earth is based on a bunch of Punjabi immigrants in Canada and a newly wed bride who marries a man whom she has never even met in her life and comes to Canada. The film stars Preity Zinta, Vansh Bhardwaj, Balinder Johal, Rajinder Singh Cheema, and Ramanjit Kaur.

When I first checked out the promos for Videsh on Apple, I was really impressed. It did seem something on the lines of Aishwarya Rai’s Provoked. A girl from Punjab marries an unknown guy settled abroad. She realizes he’s not the guy she expected him to be. Something quite relevant back there in Punjab. Wannabe brides are desperate to marry NRIs with green cards for greener pastures. Things don’t go well usually and most of the times the bride ends up in a really bad state. Videsh – Heaven on Earth highlights the pain and suffering these brides undergo in an incredibly magical way.
