People could kill to get into Infosys. I am not talking about IITians here. Engineering students like you and me who belong to the second grade of engineering colleges eye Infosys as a Goddess! People prepare for their rounds of interview, tests etc. for months, spend thousands at coaching classes.
This interview dates back to January 2008, during the Infosys HR interview rounds on your campus. The legendary person Mr. Amit Khullar from apna Punjab made a point. Although he has passed out he still remains an icon to his juniors like me. Amit is currently pursuing his dream, inside his father’s old workshop, somewhere in Punjab itself. He aims to topple Microsoft and Google from the IT mainstream.
Amit Khullar managed to clear the first barrier which is the analytical test as well as technical rounds of interview. Amit was now supposed to go for the HR interview round. No one screws the HR rounds as it’s more of a formality and you just need to sound pleasant minded and like a genuine person. This is how the legend goes:
[..during the interview]
She: So Mr. Khuller you work as a freelance consultant then why do you want to join Infosys?
Amit: You’re right ma’am, I don’t want to join your company.
She: What? Sorry I didn’t get you.
Amit: Should I be any louder ma’am?
She: So you don’t want to join the company. Then why did you sit for the placement tests?
Amit: Just for this moment ma’am. This very moment.
She: I still didn’t get what you mean Mr. Khuller.
Amit: I just wanted to say this, at this moment, you people are the scum bags of the nation.
She: Pardon?
Amit: You people are responsible for the IT brain drain of the country. You call this consulting? You’re merely slaves for those big honchos in the US. Outsourcing sounds such an excellent term but on the inside it’s slavery. You people are not hiring engineers. You are hiring slaves. You’re putting down tremendous talent pool in India and tying them down into chains.
She: I’m going to ask you to leave Mr. Khuller. Thank you very much.
Amit: I’ll leave. But you must get my point right. You are wasting the tremendous talent here into providing cheap consulting. Our country could be right at the top. Do we even have one single firm in the IT mainstream that wears a Made in India tag and offers end user products? We do have Indians in those companies…Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Google…numerous others.
She: Thank you for your time Mr. Khuller. This interview is over.
Amit: Just one last thing ma’am. INFOSYS SUCKS!
Brave men like Amit are hard to find. I seriously pity that person interviewing Amit. She must have gone into some sort of shock.
Long live Amit Khullar and his big Indian IT dream!
