Dropbox: File Sharing for Dummies!

dropbox online file sharing storing tool

There are tons of online file sharing and storing tools available on the Internet. All of these fit a variety of user requirements. Although online file storage isn’t really popular in India due to the low broadband penetration and crappy broadband service providers, having your important files globally accessible comes handy at times. You can’t always carry your flash drives with you all the time. Sometimes you go to places and you need some important files and you go ‘Ouch, it’s in my flash drive’.

Online file storage and sharing has been made easy with a brand new tool called Dropbox. Dropbox is currently in Beta. It is a useful tool to store, sync and share your data online. It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Dropbox is the most coolest online file storage and sharing software I have come across. Finally you can share files without using crappy online file sharing websites like Rapidshare etc. So now you can share your documents, programs, photos, videos etc. using Dropbox.

Dropbox is very easy to use. To get started you need to download the tool from here. Once you’re done with the downloading part, install the program on your computer. After installing you’ll see the program icon on the system tray.

how to use dropbox

Right click on that icon and select ‘Open My Dropbox’. The files you keep in the Public folder can be shared with your friends online using a public URL assigned for that file. Now you can drag and drop your files in the My Dropbox folder. Your files will be automatically synchronized in the background. To access your files you can simply log-in using your account on the Dropbox website. It’s that easy!

  • This is really cool and simple. I've been used to sloppy online back up programs in the past. At last, something practical.
