Microsoft has always maintained that their main goal in the mobile phone world has been software. Apparently things are going to change pretty soon with the word being out that Microsoft is all set to launch a Windows Mobile 7 based mobile phone in the coming few months. If this is true then Microsoft’s much talked about ‘Pink‘ project might be back in the groove. The Microsoft phone might debut at Mobile World Conference during February next month or at CTIA, Las Vegas later.
The Microsoft phone is believed to be a Zune-like device. It’s quite similar to the OEM partnership model, the one Google is using for it’s Nexus One. As per rumors Microsoft’s phone could feature a 5 mega pixel camera, high definition video and a music subscription model. Now that’s interesting, is Microsoft gearing up for a totally different reply to the App Store altogether by combining music along with apps? There’s no information on the pricing or the carrier contracts that might come with the phone. It’s certain that Microsoft doesn’t want to remain left behind in the smartphone wars with Google and Apple already battling it out for the next superphone device!
