It’s here! After months of speculation over Microsoft’s code named ‘Turtle’ smartphone, it’s official that Microsoft is coming up with Kin One and Kin Two. The new devices are being manufactured in collaboration with Sharp, just as I expected, and they will be marketed as Windows Phones. Although Kin One and Kin Two will be based on Windows Phone 7, their interface will be highly customized keeping in mind the social tag attached to the devices.
The devices support multi-touch but however there’s no native support for Flash or Silverlight as of now. Kin One is a curved slider phone which features an internal memory of 4GB, a 5 MP camera, QVGA display and a full qwerty keyboard.
Kin Two on the other hand features a HVGA display, a landscape qwerty form factor, 8 MP camera and a whopping 8GB internal memory. Both devices carry WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Microsoft has laid stress on the new UI it’s deployed on it’s Kin devices. Both Kin devices support Zune music and video and moreover it feels just as if they were Zune HD devices.
Pricing and availability isn’t yet confirmed by Microsoft. It’s clear that Verizon is going to sell Kin One and Kin Two in US in May 2010 while Vodafone has signed up for the European market. Whether these Kin devices will make it to India still remains a far away question. However I shall keep you updated on it!
