The last couple of posts on this blog have been on Airtel Broadband. No wonder they’re making news. Airtel has now launched 4 Mbps unlimited tariff plans. These plans do carry a shiny ‘*’ with the unlimited tag. But I seem to find the new 4 Mbps plans interesting. The new unlimited tariff plans start from Rs. 899 and are currently available in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai only. Of course they’re subject to technical feasibility.
Airtel’s new unlimited broadband tariff plans:
Now the catch. The so called unlimited plans are not unlimited in real sense. They all carry a data transfer limit. Say the lowest plan, Rs. 899 per month will let you surf the web on blazing fast 4 Mbps until 6GB of data transfer. After this Airtel will push you back into ice age with a 256 kbps connection and of course that has no data caps. Shocked? Provoked? Angry?
Well I won’t say Airtel broadband has come up with a fair deal here but let’s take a serious look. Say you download, on an average, somewhere around 5-6GB of data each month and the rest of the data transfer is for simple web browsing. Then the 899 plan is perfect. Say you want to do a little more than that. The 1099 plan gives you double the amount i.e 12GB in the 4 Mbps slot. Airtel however doesn’t mention anything about their sick fair usage policy on their page. I won’t take up a plan without getting to know about fair usage policy limits on these plans if I were you.
What do you think?
