Google Chrome extensions have finally been released on the stable version of the browser. I’ve been playing with them for some time now on the developer version. Google Chrome extensions are similar to Mozilla Firefox add-ons, they’re here to provide you with uber cool functionality right under the browser hood. The thing I like the most about Chrome extensions is that they’re cool to install and administrate and they’re more browser friendly. They make your life easier and that’s all you need to care about. Here are five must-have Google Chrome extensions according to me.
1. Google Mail Checker
Now almost everyone has a Gmail account. The Google Mail Checker extension is an alternative to the various notification apps that you’ve been using on your desktop. The thing here is that you don’t get pop-up notifications but a decent icon that sits right on your browser and displays the count of new mails in your account. Simple, effective and cool.

2. AdThwart
As the name suggests it blocks annoying advertisements on web pages. It is similar to AdBlock on Firefox. It includes a filter list called EasyList which is continuously updated by the community. Useful to cut out the annoying ads from the web. Although being a professional blogger I shouldn’t be advising people to install such apps!

3. Facebook Notifications
Facebook is now an essential part of our lives. Facebook Notifications extension is quite useful in case you want to stay connected with Facebook’s notifications. It displays the number of new notifications (of course you’ll need to be signed in to your Facebook account) and on clicking the icon on your browser it shall display the latest notifications summary. Quite cool!

4. Chromed Bird
Twitter is as essential as oxygen. At least for nerds like me. Chromed Bird extension allows you to post updates, view timeline, DMs and mentions from your Twitter account. It’s like a fully functional Twitter app living right inside your Chrome web browser. Now how cool is that? It’s a must for all Twitter addicts.

5. Docs PDF/PowerPoint Viewer (by Google)
Now here’s something even more useful. This extension from Google will let you preview PDFs, power point presentations, doc files etc. in Google Docs. It’s useful because you don’t need to open/install apps when you have to just view a document. Adobe Acrobat is a monster every time I need to open up a PDF on the web.
