And finally we have decided on our list of winners for the 81st Academy Awards. It was great to watch all nominated flicks and then vote for the best one. Here are our predictions for this year’s Oscars. Please feel free to voice your opinions and predictions in the comments section below.
[This is Part 1 of the predictions.]
Best Animated Feature Film
Nominations:
Bolt (Disney)
Kung-Fu Panda (Dreamworks)
Wall-E (Disney)
And the winner is: Kung-Fu Panda (Dreamworks)
A few words: Well this was a really close call between Kung-Fu Panda and Wall-E. Both were really excellent animated flicks and highly impressive. Kung-Fu Panda won by a vote while Bolt didn’t seem to impress even a single vote.
Achievement in directing
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
And the winner is: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
A few words: You have to hand it out to David Fincher, the director of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Not only does he excel in the entire story telling enterprise, he also leans a step further showcasing some of the best skills the film industry has ever come across.
Achievement in art direction
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Changeling
The Dark Knight
The Duchess
Revolutionary Road
And the winner is: Changeling
A few words: This is one prediction all of us are sure about. Changeling is one of the most impressive displays of art direction. Since Changeling was based way back in time it was important to place all details correctly. Special mention for those skates Angelina Jolie wore as a manager in a telephone exchange. Awesome stuff!
Achievement in visual effects
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Iron Man
And the winner is: The Dark Knight
A few words: The Dark Knight is one of the most impressive movies of all time. We all know the swanky digital cameras used by the production team and the amount of effort that went in to come with an excellent looking movie.
Achievement in film editing
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
And the winner is: The Dark Knight
A few words: Once again, all votes for The Dark Knight!
Screenplay based on material previously produced (or published)
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
And the winner is: Slumdog Millionaire
A few words: Hats off to the entire team behind Slumdog Millionaire. A very magnificent adaptation from a book titled Q & A, written by an Indian diplomat.
Screenplay written directly for the screen
Nominations:
Frozen River
Happy Go Lucky
In Bruges
Milk
Wall-E
And the winner is: Milk
A few words: No words for this Sean Penn starer flick! A very well crafter screenplay, beautifully executed.
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score)
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Slumdog Millionaire
Milk
Defiance
Wall-E
And the winner is: Slumdog Millionaire
A few words: Just for the record, I didn’t vote for Slumdog Millionaire.
Achievement in cinematography
Nominations:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Changeling
The Dark Knight
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
And the winner is: The Dark Knight
A few words: Absolutely no doubt about this one! The Dark Knight is a sure shot winner here.
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song)
Nominations:
“Down to Earth” from Wall-E
“Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire
“O Saya” from Slumdog Millionaire
And the winner is: “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire
A few words: Looks like AR Rahman might walk away with an Oscar this year just because he’s got two out of three nominations in this category. I’ll still say he could be better.
