Google has officially started selling the Nexus 7 tablet in India. Finally! Technology enthusiasts in India have been getting the Nexus 7 in India using various different channels – begging relatives in US, indirect e-commerce channels and even paying a premium on eBay. But no more, Google will now sell the Nexus 7 on the Google Play Store.
Nexus 7 is the first device Google is selling on its Play Store in India. Google had recently introduced e-books on the Google Play Store in India. Nexus 7 is listed at Rs. 15,999 for the 16GB version on Google’s online store. That’s the only variant currently available. My guess is they’re just dumping unsold inventory here. Nexus 7 might just receive significant updates (both software and hardware) at Google I/O 2013.
What’s interesting here is that Google is now opening up its Play Store to sell devices in India. The news comes as a surprise for folks like me. I’m really, really happy and almost hopeful that the next device Google might start selling in India would be a Nexus 4.
The Nexus 7 can be ordered on the Google Play Store now and according to the site, Google will ship it by April 5, 2013. If you want to buy a decent Android tablet at this form factor, Nexus 7 isn’t a bad choice at all. However I’d just ask you to wait for another two months to see what Google might have in store for us at Google I/O.
