Oh boy! Amit Trivedi is back with another smashing soundtrack. Aisha is papa Anil Kapoor’s production house product starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in lead roles. Now that’s a package I cannot resist. I had earlier declared Amit Trivedi as the next AR Rahman of the Indian soundtrack scene and so the expectations from Aisha’s soundtrack were immense.
So without my usual nonsense I shall get on with the review.
AR Rahman is back again! With that I really mean it. I guess you get the idea how I’ve felt about Raavan’s music so far. Impressed will be an understatement. Especially for someone like me who’s been constantly asking for the best from AR Rahman all the time. Raavan has cleared the rough path Rahman has been going through for quite some time now.
The first time I caught Raavan’s promo on national television I was taken aback. Only someone like Mani Ratnam could title a movie Raavan and go ahead to cast Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in it. The plot still remains a mystery to me and I hope I can keep it that way. Raavan’s teaser makes it a must-see this summer. Continue reading “Music Review – Raavan”
The man is back! With his lady, all-time favorite lyricist companion and a simply brilliant crew. Yes I’m talking about the great Vishal Bhardwaj, his lady Rekha Bhardwaj and writer Gulzar. Three names I wanna see on a soundtrack I’m buying. Three names to loosen my wallet. Ishqiya is Vishal’s latest flick starring Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah in lead roles. The bold promos of Ishqiya have been out for some time now, the movie is coming by the end of January 2010. I won’t discuss the movie any further. Let’s talk about the soundtrack. The last time around Vishal came up with some really good stuff with Kaminey. He is known to give classic touches to soundtracks, he’s not the conventional Anu Mallik-Pritam styled Bollywood music composer. With expectations high on him this time around, does he deliver? Well if you don’t wanna read a long review and are just looking for an objective type answer, I’ll say Ishqiya is one of Vishal Bhardwaj’s best soundtracks. Go for quality than quantity here. Ishqiya’s music is a masterpiece. The likes of AR Rahman might find it hard to survive in the industry now.
3 Idiots marks the return of Aamir Khan in one of the most anticipated movies of 2009. Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller Five Point Someone, the movie is another Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in lead roles. The music has been composed by Shantanu Moitra, another favorite under the Vidhu Vinod Chopra banner. The film is supposed to be a fun filled comedy and shall release worldwide by the end of this year. Continue reading “Music Review – 3 Idiots”
I’m not much of an AR Rahman fan. I mean I used to be one but then Yuvvraaj happened. Apparently Rahman hasn’t impressed me much after that. Blue is AR Rahman’s first Bollywood soundtrack release after the Oscars. Was the pressure a bit too much on the chap? You bet! It’s very important for Rahman to keep himself in the game. He’s one guy who used to reinvent his music every time, come up with smash hits, and now? Now he’s just chiggy-ing wiggy-ing around!
Blue stars Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta in lead roles. I won’t comment on the flick right now, let me just concentrate on the music part. Blue’s soundtrack was much anticipated but certainly wasn’t over hyped like most Rahman’s soundtracks are. Coming straight out of the Oscars, I expect Rahman to throw something brilliant at us, for a change. Does he live up to his brand? Does he make you wanna toggle the repeat button? Well let’s tune in. As Rahman points out clearly in the inlay card, ‘The expectations are scary.’ Continue reading “Music Review – Blue”
Vishal Bhardwaj is one of my favorite film makers and music composers in the country. He is one dude who knows what he’s doing. Kaminey is Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest flick starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Kaminey is one of the most awaited flicks of 2009. Kaminey’s music released today. The lyrics have been penned down by Gulzar and the music has been composed by the director Vishal Bhardwaj himself.
Remember Maachis? Remember Omkara? Vishal Bhardwaj’s music indeed made the films stand out. Kaminey has all those attributes of a typical commercial Bollywood movie, if you go by the promos on national television. Does the music work this time for Vishal? Well let’s check it out! Continue reading “Music Review: Kaminey”
Akshay Kumar possesses some super natural powers in his next Bollywood flick and surprisingly it has got nothing to do with tickling your funny bone. Akshay’s next is a thriller which has been directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The film also stars newly wed Ayesha Takia along with Sharmila Tagore, Javed Jaffrey and Pia Shah in supporting roles. The film has been mostly shot in Canada. The soundtrack for the film has been composed by Salim-Sulaiman. I’m certainly looking forward to it! Percept Picture Company and T-Series have jointly produced this film. The film’s plot revolves around Akshay Kumar’s character which has a super natural power of going into the past via 8 X 10 sized photographs. And it’s only from one such photograph that he discovers his father’s murderer. I wonder why only 8 X 10 photographs? I guess they’re big enough to get in. Eh? I guess Nagesh Kukunoor will need to justify the plot with some seriously good amount of reasoning. As of now, I’ll say you wait for the soundtrack. Also the movie does seem quite interesting after watching the promos. Will Akshay and Nagesh manage to disappoint Bollywood lovers with this flick? I hope not!
Shankar Ehsaan Loy have been spinning some really good tracks lately for Bollywood soundtracks. Luck By Chance was a really good soundtrack they came up with since Dil Chahta Hai. I agree they have been making good music in between too but I could somehow relate the virgin melodies in the two soundtracks. Moving on, 13B is an upcoming Bollywood horror flick starring R.Madhavan and Neetu Chandra in lead roles. I managed to catch the 13B trailer during the screening of a movie and found it quite interesting. The music of 13B is out in the market. It has been composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Neelesh Misra has worked on the lyrics for the soundtrack. Does it pass the acid test? Continue reading “Music Review- 13B”
