Alarm Clock
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” We all remember Benjamin Franklin’s saying so well. I agree the early to bed part doesn’t fit within the college lifestyle but early to rise sure does. Morning alarm clocks are as essential as high speed broadband connections for college students. Alarm clocks are cheap and easily available. However what is important is how effective they are in actually getting your lazy ass out of the bed every morning. We all tend to just switch off the alarm when it rings in the morning and get back to our little world of big dreams. Clocky is one alarm clock that is sure to wake you up. It has been developed by an MIT student. When it does go off, it spins and rolls off and starts running around your room until it’s turned off, whilst emitting a loud alarm. Better than having your mom shout at you every morning.
Laptop
Laptops are very essential especially if you’re into engineering. Even if you don’t belong to the engineering field you would still need a computer for something or the other. A laptop makes sense for a student. A laptop is no longer a luxury, it has become a necessity. The flexibility that it provides is endless. You can carry it along with you, take notes while in a lecture, create your reports etc. Not to forget the multimedia capabilities like watching movies, listening to music etc. Yeah most of us use laptops for just watching the latest flicks. Laptops these days are just as powerful as desktops. Also they’re quite cheap and affordable these days. So go for it!
Music Player
A music player is yet another essential gadget for a student. Trust me music can do wonders when you’re totally stressed out. A music player comes handy while you’re spending late nights finishing reports, copying notes endlessly, taking a break in-between your study sessions etc. Music players are abundant in the market. From the classy shining Apple iPods to the cheap Chinese Mp3 players, you can pick your choice. A music player is essential to survive the hard college life.
Flash Drive
Gone are the days when you used to carry floppy disks. Keep a flash drive handy at all times. You’ll need it to copy the data from your college labs to your personal computer at home or your laptop. You can use it for just anything. Flash drives are cheaper too and since they’re USB compatible you can use them on any computer. It’s quick and quite useful. Go for the 4GB ones in case you’re interested in transferring multimedia files from your friends at college. You know what I mean!
Cell Phone
People used to stare at cell phone owners earlier. Now cell phone owners stare at people without one. Every next door Chunnu Munnu has a cell phone. With cell phone prices dropping and the mobile service providers market exploding by the second, owning a cell phone in India is cheaper than your underwear. A cell phone is essential for every student these days. Apart from staying in touch with your family at all times, there is a load of things you can do with your cell phone. The Apple iPhone 3G is just around the corner. You might hear some official good news soon!
WiFi Detector
You can’t expect yourself to keep your laptop on your head and search for a signal everytime you are in need of a WiFi connection. Grab a WiFi detector. It’s cool, it’s smart and it’s highly useful. The amazing device picks up 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth networks. Also you can use it to impress the chicks at college.
