There was a time when actresses in Bollywood used to go through the natural process of aging. Now it seems the clock goes backwards in time. Every new actress on the block claims, ‘Oh! I’m just 19′, which makes me wonder, is 19 the new sweet 16? Well Deepika Padukone or whatever her last name is, Anushka Sharma, Jiah Khan etc. were all amazingly shocking. Not in terms of their acting skills but their claims of being just 19.
If you look at Deepika, she is one huge girl. If she was 19 when Om Shanti Om came out, I’ll rather kill myself than see her turn into a monster by the age of 25. Jiah Khan’s legs overtook Amitabh Bachchan’s popularity as they became the most talked about aspect of the film Nishabd. I have no words for her. And then there was this recently hatched chicken called Anushka Sharma, also claiming to be daring 19, starring alongside 40 plus uncle Shah Rukh.
So why 19? Why not 18? Or for that matter why not 16 or 17? Let me guess. 16-17 is very hard to digest. You’ll need pills. Trust me. Also 16-17 makes you a minor. So you can’t have full control over your money. 18 sounds just-turned legal. Most importantly, 18 sounds like it’s all made-up. 19 sounds safe. Legal, not-18, easier to digest and you’re still in those teen years. In a couple of years you turn into your early 20s and then you can probably enjoy all the Page 3 stuff.
And in case you’re wondering, I’m still 19. No wait. Lemme count. Yes. Right. I’m 19. OK stop giggling.

The bold and the bootyful appeal to everyone. 19 makes them legally responsible and it’s politically okay to talk about their booty openly. Being talked about for sexiness is I’m sure any fashion loving girl’s dream. 18 is a little wannabe-ish when it comes to the same.
